(Web Deks) – The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday granted bail to PTI Senator Ejaz Chaudhry, who had been behind bars since May 11, 2023.
A three-member bench led by Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan approved the bail, ordering Chaudhry to submit surety bonds worth Rs100,000 in the trial court.
During the hearing, the special prosecutor accused Chaudhry of inciting the public and being part of a conspiracy. Justice Afghan, however, questioned the strength of the case, remarking, “If the case was that solid, it should have been sent to a military court,” noting that nearly 600 people have already been tried in such courts.
He also underscored that bail should not be treated as a punishment.
Chaudhry’s lawyer reminded the bench that his client had been in custody for almost a year.
